Our tribe is made up of 3 women (DeeDee, Brittany, and Ali) who were motivated to start Small Wonder Warriors based on the work that Lowcountry Warrior Moms has been doing with the Medical University of South Carolina Children’s Hospital. Lowcountry Warrior Moms was founded in 2014 by Ali’s best friend, Krista, and two other inspiring women that were moved by a mom named Rachele who lost her son Zach on Mother’s Day, 2014.
Excerpts from a blog post introducing Rachele’s story
in February of 2014 below:
Rachele decided to channel all the energy of her rage and pain and grief about Zach’s death into love and light in honor of Zach’s life. In honor of her son, she and her tribe perform “Zach Attacks” – love projects that spread wide and deep the love that Zach brought to the world while he was here.
“Every state has a Children’s Hospital; every state has a Mom that will be sitting by her child’s hospital bed… no matter what the circumstances and how much her heart is broken, there is always a glimmer of hope to be found. I know one act of kindness turns into another act of kindness, and so one simple act of kindness can change a life, and then the world.”
So incredibly inspiring…and very needed here in our own Small Wonder of a state. With Krista’s guidance, our goal is to have Small Wonder Warriors up and running to deliver bags of love to families of children in the NICU, PICU, and CICU at Nemours Children’s Hospital for the beginning of Spring 2024.
Knowing that every state is different, every family is different, and every child is different, Small Wonder Warriors will focus our efforts on acknowledging the families/caregivers of these children on a day when they least expect it. We will provide goodie bags filled with anonymous notes of encouragement, useful and supportive items, as well as a few indulgent surprises. We will work closely with the nursing staff at Nemours to ensure that what we are providing will not only be well received by the families, but permitted by the hospital.
Small Wonder Warriors is excited to bring our mission to life at Nemours as we welcome Spring 2024! But we cannot do this alone! Delaware is a small state, but it is also one big community, with an even bigger heart.
